July is one of our favorite months at DBaC, Inc. Not only does the weather in Newport typically turn warm and sunny but we have our OC Fair Day in July and we get to kick off the patriotic month in a place rich with patriotic history.
This month we took it upon ourselves to celebrate the Fourth of July with a series of pictures featuring the American flag at our job sites. They are shown below and you can also see the whole series on our Instagram – dbacbuilds. What not many people know or remember is our DBaC offices at 101 Shipyard Way were a beehive of activity during World War II when the building was part of the war effort building wooden yard tugs, mine sweepers and rescue boats to aid in the allies. The owner at the time, Ackerman Boat Works, built approximately 35 boats for the US Army and US Navy in the early 1940’s, many of them in 101 Shipyard. Eventually the building was converted to office use, and now houses DBaC, Inc. As you can see from the attached pictures, the winch used to pull the boats out to the harbor remains.
DBaC Employee Spotlight
Our employee spotlight of the month is Kevin Welch. Kevin is a Project Manager who recently joined the DBaC team. Right now, Kevin is helping out at SKT Law in Long Beach and he is enjoying watching his first job get to completion on time and within budget. Like many on the DBaC team, Kevin was born right here at Hoag Hospital and grew up in Newport. He attended CdM High and then played a little college football at Indiana University for his freshman year. He missed the beach and sun so transferred to UCI and switched to play volleyball for the Anteaters. Along with volleyball, Kevin likes to bodysurf and golf. He has a twin brother and an older brother and, along with his Mom and Dad, they all still live in Newport. Welcome Kevin!
